About This Restorative Back Routine

Some days your back needs effort, and some days it needs rest. This is the rest day. Every position in this routine is passive — you get into the stretch and let gravity and time do the work. There’s no muscular effort required, no active engagement, just your body relaxing into supported positions.

Cat-cow provides a gentle warm-up, then child’s pose and knees-to-chest decompress your spine. Happy baby opens your hips without any strain. Legs up the wall is one of the most restorative positions in stretching — it reverses the effects of gravity on your lower body and takes pressure off your lumbar spine. Reclined butterfly opens your inner hips while you lie completely still.

This is the routine to reach for after a tough workout, a stressful day, or when your back is telling you to take it easy.
